WEEKLY NEWS AND MATCH PRESS RELEASE

Season 2016-17     Issue: 51 – Saturday 8th April 2017

CUP COMPETITIONS

Sussex Bluefin Junior Cup Final

MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to Metin, Ady and everyone involved with Romans United in winning the final 3-1 at the SCFA at Lancing. The goals were scored by Brett Grainger who got 2 and Kevin Budge. An amazing win and go one better than the last league team to get to the final 3 years ago, South Coast City.

Premier League

The title went down to the last game of the season and Worthing BCOB needed a win in their final game against Worthing Dynamos to pip Ovingdean to the title. Scoring 3 goals in the first half they looked comfortable but credit to Dynamos who made them work for it scoring 2 in the second half to make it 3-2. Congratulations Worthing BCOB and well done to Ovingdean who are runners up and Hangleton FC end up third.

Division 1 East

Once again and thanks to the BWDFL, fixture secretary the title would be decided on the last weekend of the season. Woodingdean Wanderers who have been at the top for most of the season needed a win against bottom side Southwick Rangers II to lift the trophy at Longhill School. The title was not in the hands of Romans United who could only win the league if they won and Woodingdean Wanderers drew or lost, played Diversity United at Waterhall.

Congratulations to Woodingdean Wanderers on their 4-1 win with, Adam Dine in what could be his last season scoring a brace to lift the trophy with a side with an average age of 20. Romans united won by the same score and finish runners up with The View finishing third.

Division 1 West

Two games played in the division today. Worthing Town Leisure were 7-3 winners over Broadwater Athletic and Maybridge and AFC Sparta played out a 1-1 draw which saw AFC Sparta confirmed as runners up to FC MSR Allstars. Congratulations to FC MSR Allstars in winning the league. AFC Sparta and Worthing Town Leisure have both still got games to play and it is all looking very tight for second place.

RESULT OF THE DAY

Easiest Result of the Day ever.

Romans United winning the County Cup and bringing the trophy back to Greenleas.

Premier Division

Just the one game in the division today saw Ovingdean beat Ferring FC Reserves 8-0. Full credit must go to the Ferring Reserve team players who despite only having a point from their games this season turn up week in and week out.

Division 1 East

Two games played in the league today with Diversity United continuing their fine form with a 3-0 away win against The Lectern. In the other game The View drew 1-1 with Southwick Rangers II.

Division 1 West

Three fixtures today with the biggest winners being AFC Sparta who recorded a 7-0 away win against St Mary’s and Andrew Cole scoring another hat trick to add to his many goals this season. AFC Sparta are now pushing hard to finish runners up and may even win the league with their games in hand, too hard to call even for a betting man. Goring Cricket Club drew 3-3 with AFC Broadwater. Littlehampton Town Athletic Reserves were unable to raise a side for their league game against Goring St Theresas so a home win subject to league committee confirmation. Fourth v Fifth saw Northbrook draw 1-1 with Broadwater Athletic.

RESULT OF THE DAY

Undeniably this goes to Romans United following their 3-1 win in the Sussex Bluefin Junior Cup Semi Final against Bexhill Town.
